Microdermabrasion is a new and innovative technique to treat the outer layers of the
skin by gently abrading its surface. Microdermabrasion treatments
have been used in Europe for years. Now the exciting procedure is
helping men and women in the United States experience remarkable improvements
in their skin texture and appearance. Microdermabrasion is a safe,
non-surgical, comprehensive approach to skin care. Micro-crystals
are passed through a sterile tube and gently and painlessly clean
off the superficial, dead skin cells, while stimulating the
production of fresh young skin cells and collagen.
The
wonderful thing about microdermabrasion is that the effects are
cumulative, yet you can return to work immediately with only
slight redness. Microdermabrasion treatments treat fine lines, age
spots and even reduce the appearance of acne scars. Unfortunately,
microdermabrasion cannot treat deep wrinkles and this does require
laser resurfacing, which is also available at the Center.

A variety
of techniques are available to also chemically remove the outer
layers of the skin. This can be combined in conjunction with
microdermabrasion or by itself. The different chemicals used are
glycolic acid or trichloracetic acid (TCA). A variety of
concentrations are available depending on the type of skin that
the patient has and the desired result. Skin peels are usually
required periodically to maintain the effect of plumping the skin
and smoothing out the lines. Again, deeper lines, such as around
the crow's feet and lip area will usually require more aggressive
treatment, such as the laser (CO2 or Erbium).

An
important part of any skin care maintenance program involves the
use of the hands on technique of a trained medical skin care
specialist. The objective of medical facials is to accentuate and
compliment such treatments as microdermabrasion and chemical
peels. Facials are important to maintain the integrity of the
outer layers of skin and keep the pores clean in order to prevent
oily buildup and cyst formation. Facials, when combined with
microdermabrasion, are also helpful in the treatment of juvenile
and adult onset acne.

Unsightly
spider veins are very common on the lower extremities of women.
They are due to the weakness of the vasculature in the lower
extremity area. The treatment of choice is sclerotherapy (injection) sometimes combined with laser treatments. More than
one treatment is usually required. It is necessary to wear a
compression garment for several days following the procedure, but
the patient is ambulatory immediately following the procedure.

Dr.
Lavine has been trained on Carbon Dioxide lasers for resurfacing,
the Erbium laser for resurfacing, as well as the Ruby laser for
tattoo removal and the EpiLight laser for tattoo removal and
"light facials"TM. Dr. Lavine has also been a medical
instructor and lecturer on the Ruby lasers and was one of the
first physicians in the United States to begin using this for
tattoo removal and hair removal. Dr. Lavine is also a member of
the International Society of Cosmetic Laser Surgeons, as well as
many other credentials.

Do you:
-
Always
want to look your best with the least amount of time and
effort, even when you are active, or when you wake in the
morning?
-
Have
problem areas around your eyebrows with too little or uneven
hair growth?
-
Want to
accentuate your eyes but either don't have the time or skill
to apply eye make-up effectively?
-
Want to
have fuller lips or a more defined outline to your lips?
Micropigmentation,
also referred to as permanent make-up, is absolutely water-proof.
Permanent make-up is the implantation of mineral extract into the
skin. This ancient practice, which has beautified women in Asia
for centuries is now available in our office through our safe and
modern technology. All of the dyes used are allergy tested and
cleared by the FDA.

A
Botox® injection is a simple, non-surgical procedure that
smoothes the deep, persistent lines between your brows that have
developed over the course of time. A ten minute treatment
relaxes the muscles that cause those lines to form and keeps them
relaxed up to four months. It has been approved by the FDA for
treatment.
Unlike
surgery, Botox® is fast, simple, and minimally invasive, with no
downtime or recovery.
Collagen is
a protein found in the second layer of skin known as the dermis
(the first layer is called the epidermis). It is injected
under the dermis layer to added fullness to areas of the face
such as the lips, cheeks and forehead.
