Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion improves mild to moderate sun damage, scarring, wrinkles and other superficial skin problems. A gentle stream of tiny particles exfoliates the outer layer of skin and provides a fresh, glowing, younger appearance. Only a small amount of skin is removed, so sensitive areas such as the face, chest, neck, arms and hands can be treated. Results are comparable to a light chemical peel and should be immediately visible. Microdermabrasion is often performed in conjunction with other skin renewal procedures, such as laser treatment and chemical peels. Multiple treatments are recommended for full effect.

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels remove damaged outer layers of skin on the face to smooth texture, reduce scarring, and remove blemishes to produce healthy, glowing skin. There are two types of chemical peels we offer, ranging from mild to strong - alphahydroxy acids (AHAs) and trichloroacetic acid (TCA) - and formula strengths are tailored to each patient. Peels can be combined with other procedures such as facelifts for a younger look.

AHAs are the gentlest of the three types of chemical peel. They consist of a group of glycolic, lactic and fruit acids that smooth and brighten skin by treating fine wrinkles, dryness, uneven pigmentation and acne. AHAs are typically applied once a week, or may be mixed in a milder concentration with a cream or cleanser to be used daily; treatment takes 10 minutes or less. Patients may choose AHAs if they do not want the lengthy recovery time of a phenol or TCA peel. Occasionally AHAs, Retin-A (a prescription medication containing Vitamin A) or hydroquinone (a bleach solution) are used to thin the skin and even its tone as a pre-treatment for TCA peels.

TCAs are commonly used for medium-depth peeling (though depth is adjustable) to treat fine surface wrinkles, superficial blemishes and pigment problems, sometimes in combination with AHAs. TCAs are the preferred chemical solution for darker-skinned patients and may be used on the neck and other areas of the body.

Medical Facials

As we age, the rate at which our skin sheds and replenishes itself slows down. This leaves a layer of dead cells on the surface of the skin, contributing to an aged appearance. Medical facials help exfoliate the damaged layer to reveal the younger, healthier skin beneath. Some of the ingredients used can be natural fruits and plant extracts, essential oils, vitamins, collagen and elastin. Facials reduce the signs of aging and can also improve skin conditions such as acne, dry or oily skin, and uneven texture or pigmentation. Facials are tailored to each patient for optimal results.

Kinerase®

Kinerase® is a line of moisturizing cosmetic products designed to improve skin texture and reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, freckles, brown spots and uneven pigmentation. Kinerase is based on a synthetic ingredient called N6-furfuryladenine, which may slow natural aging in plants. It is useful for day-to-day improvement of skin texture and appearance, for treating skin disorders such as rosacea, eczema and dermatitis, and for supplementing procedures from laser resurfacing and microdermabrasion to chemical peels and BOTOX® injections.

Not only do the products help people of all ages and skin types, they are also non-comedogenic and hypoallergenic (meaning they will not clog pores or cause an allergic reaction), causing virtually no skin irritation. At-home application of Kinerase creams and lotions are recommended each morning and evening. Results should be fully visible in three months.

Tri-Luma®

Tri-Luma® is a prescription skin cream designed to help even out skin tone and reduce the appearance of dark blotches caused by melasma and other discolorations. The Tri-Luma cream contains hydroquinone, an effective skin lightener, as well as tretinoin to increase skin shedding and flucinolone to reduce swelling, itching and redness.

It is important for patients to avoid direct sun exposure while using Tri-Luma, as it may cause excess melanin production, which can result in more discoloration. For many patients, a more even skin tone can be achieved within just eight weeks. Long-lasting results can be achieved by reducing exposure to all causes of melasma.
